ONLINE SALES SLOW-
“Since the inception of the Web, online commerce has enjoyed hyper-growth, with annual sales increasing more than 25%
overall. But in the last year, growth slowed sharply in major sectors like books, tickets and office supplies and categories
like health and beauty products, computer peripherals and pet supplies. Jupiter Research says the growth rate has peaked.
Sales on the Internet are expected to reach $116 billion this year, or 5% of all retail sales, making it harder to maintain
the same high growth rates. By 2011, online sales are projected to account for nearly 7% of overall retail sales. Consumers
seem to be experiencing Internet fatigue and are changing buying habits. Retailers have livened up their stores to be more
alluring, making the buying experience more pleasurable. In addition, online shopping, because it involves a computer, feels
like work.” Resource: The New York Times, 6/17/07
